LALO SCHIFRIN

I was on tour with the second Australian Idol top 10 with one show to go when James Morrison rang me with a proposition: Lalo Schifrin was performing the following week at the Sydney Opera House. He had brought the legendary Grady Tate to play drums and Christian McBride was on bass. Unfortunately, Grady had taken ill and had to return to New York, so James asked me to fill in for Grady at the last minute.

The experience was amazing on so many levels. Getting to play Lalo's music, with the man himself conducting, was fantastic. Playing with Christian, one of the world's finest bass players, was exhilarating and as always, it was a pleasure to play with James Morrison. However, trying to marry the worlds of jazz and clasical music was daunting and a real challenge. I'll never forget the experience. Here we are taking a bow after the first concert and then relaxing at the conclusion of the concert series.

Here we are at Victoria Hall in Geneva rehearsing for The Jazz Meets The Symphony concert.
